Trullo Antico
Trullo Antico is an ancient trullo located 15 km from the sea,
up at selva di Fasano, on top of a rolling succession
of green hills that surround the Itria valley.
It lies around 7 km from Fasano, 13 km from Alberobello, 25 km from
Ostuni, beautiful towns renowned for their whitewashed old
city centres, their excellent wines, fine cuisines, and
their Romanesque and Baroque architecture.
This
ancient trullo is highly recommended for wine lovers, as the
owner is a sommelier, and a wine expert who enjoys
matching up the contents of her wine cellar with the finest
Italian cuisine. |
|
Part of a historic rural settlement, Trullo Antico
preserves the authentic charm of old country houses,
and is perfect for a group of four people. It is made up of four
“cones”, which form a large entrance/living room, which has two
traditional arches. One arch leads into a well-equipped little kitchen space and an intimate comfortable lounge, while the other takes you to two double bedrooms and a shower room.
The house is surrounded by a garden dominated by fragrant Mediterranean
maquis, as well as jasmines and bougainvillea. An ancient
olive tree provides shade for the front patio,
which is paved with ancient flagstones. |
| |
| In detail |
| Trullo Antico has been refurbished using original
materials and without altering the layout of the house, but concentrating
on comfort and functionality. Lovers of fine wine will enjoy meeting
the owner, a sommelier and a great source of quality wine
tours. |
|
The kitchenette
is spacious and functional, with
a working top cut from a single stone slab, inset with a circular
steel wash tub and a four-ring gas cooker, as well as an electric
oven and fridge. |
|
The roomy
entrance/living room has two archways, one leading to the
kitchen and the other to the comforts of the lounge.
Table, chairs and cupboards: all of the furniture is wooden,
in the traditional Apulian country style, creating
an atmosphere underlined by the useful wood stove,
which warms the trullo in spring and autumn. |
|
The lounge is intimately furnished
with a comfortable sofa, an armchair, a hand-made
iron and copper coffee table, an ethnic carpet,
a television, a recess in the wall (all that is needed now is some
fine wine to complete the picture!). |
|
From the lounge
there is a pretty doorway into the first
master bedroom, with a comfortable queen-sized bed, perfect
for a couple, the head painted by young Luigi;
the rest of the room is furnished with ethnic drapes ,
a bench, a painted wooden chest,
a traditional straw-covered chair, a Brazilian wooden mirror, and
an iron-studded wooden clothes-hook. |

|
|
|
The second doorway from the lounge leads to the other
bedroom, which has a double bed, a linen chest, a clothes-hook
made of wood and iron, a bench and a bedside table.
Two large recesses in the walls can be used for
storing personal possessions and linen, while an archway
in the thick wall can be used as wardrobe space.
The gracefulwindow, framed by bougainvillea flowers,
brightens the room and looks out onto the garden. |

The fully-equipped bathroom
is one of the prettiest
parts of the house, with its fascinating old stonework:
from the top where the washbasin is set, to the mirror-frame, made
from the opening to an old well, to the walls and the prestigious
shower, embellished by an “umbrella” in chrome steel and a pretty
recess in the wall; a blue window opens onto the garden. |
| |
|
| The outside, shaded by an ancient olive,
tree is completely paved with ancient cobblestones,
furnished with two white sun umbrellas, a wicker rocking chair,
a lounger, and a table and chairs. |
